
Caprese salad
A true testament to the beauty of Italian cuisine, where less is more, and freshness is key.
Ingredients:
- 3 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
- 8 oz (225 g) fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for drizzling)
- Balsamic glaze (optional, for a more intense flavor)
Instructions:
- Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese into approximately 1/4-inch thick slices.
- Arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices on a platter, alternating them for a beautiful color contrast.
- Tuck whole basil leaves between the slices of tomato and mozzarella.
- Sprinkle the salad lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavors.
- Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil evenly over the salad.
