Caprese salad on a bowl with a fork beside it

Caprese salad

A true testament to the beauty of Italian cuisine, where less is more, and freshness is key.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 oz (225 g) fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for drizzling)
  • Balsamic glaze (optional, for a more intense flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese into approximately 1/4-inch thick slices.
  2. Arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices on a platter, alternating them for a beautiful color contrast.
  3. Tuck whole basil leaves between the slices of tomato and mozzarella.
  4. Sprinkle the salad lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavors.
  5. Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil evenly over the salad.
  6. If using, drizzle balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze over the top for added richness and a touch of acidity.
  7. Serve the Caprese Salad immediately, allowing the flavors to meld slightly at room temperature for the best taste.
