Classic Bolognese

Easy and delicious homemade bolognese.

Ingredients:

4 portions
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 400g canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil
  • 250g spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat a splash of olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the pan. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, stirring occasionally.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions in a separate pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain well.
  5. Serve the bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
